Biography
Sandra H. Douglas supports DYP as a Cole neighborhood Community Connector for My Outdoor Colorado. Sandy, as she is often called, was born in Haskell, Texas (West Texas), and is the second child of six girls. She has two sons and a host of grands, both grands and great grands. She graduated from Metropolitan State College with a Business Management Degree and a Master’s Degree from Regis University in Nonprofit Management. She left the Federal Government where she had worked for many years to pursue higher education. It was this degree that provided the framework for the remainder of Sandy’s life advocating for others.
Sandy has lived in the Cole neighborhood for the past 35 years, most of this time was in service to her community and her church. With a strong desire for change she was a candidate for City Council for then District 8. Moving seamlessly, she was connected to the neighborhood association of which she was the founder, contractor position, self-employment, Substitute Teaching for Denver Public Schools, and just as a volunteer in various community initiatives where there was a need. In fact, Sandy organized the Cole Neighborhood Association. The Neighborhood Association was instrumental in working with the EPA getting all Cole homes tested for lead. Negotiating with City, State, and Federal governments, along with partnering neighborhood representatives.
Sandy’s greatest accomplishment and blessing is her two sons and her life with them. Her neighbors, especially young people, have come through the life of Sandy Douglas. This she is proud of and is sincerely thankful.
